BLENDED BACKGROUND QUILTS

There are two options for this class. Students may spend the day working on an Ohio Star quilt or starting the design process for a one-of-a-kind quilt of their own. Those who choose to sew will need to do some cutting before class. Cutting instructions can be found on the Supply List.

Those who choose to work on their own designs will start with a basic pieced block and learn to use secondary patterns in the background areas as they create their own unique design. Once you have settled on a design we can explore different ways to piece your quilt and start figuring yardage for your project. The quilt pictured is twin-size.

PIECING MOSAIC TILE DESIGNS

Piecing Mosaic Tile Designs Workshop with Jean Biddick

The patterns in mosaic tile floors are a wonderful design source but present a challenge when translated into pieced quilts. Using freezer paper as a piecing aid allows you to tackle these intricate designs with confidence as you start piecing a small wall hanging. You may start with one of Jean's patterns or work on designing your own mosaic quilt.

NO-NONSENSE NINE-PATCH

Here is a great way to use some of those fabrics you've been hoarding. Nine-patch blocks are alternated with half-square triangle blocks to create multiple bands of shadow and sunlight. In class we will work on a wall hanging that can easily be expanded into a larger quilt.
